The history of the property where 19th St. Salon & Spa is located has quite a story.  It began as a farmhouse with several acres located in the rural area of Topeka, Kansas.  It was initially owned by the Butner family.  A family member owned the Butner's Grocery Store which was a prominent grocery store in Topeka. 

To make way for Gage Boulevard, the farmhouse was moved to it's present location which is 1/2 block west of 19th & Gage.  The farmland was also platted and lots were sold off for residences, which exists to this day.  In the 1950's, the farmhouse  was sold to a chiropractor, Dr. Zoeller, who opened up his chiropractic business there.  He was there for approximately 25 years when Dr. Zoeller built a new building at 29th & Atwood.  Dr. Zoeller sold this chiropractic location to Dr. Paul Rebek, DDS,  who transformed the location to his dental building.  In 1997, Dr. Rebek sold the property to William and Sharon Kress who founded a hair salon and spa there, now known as 19th St. Salon & Spa.

Since 1997, the property has undergone several renovations spearheaded by William Kress who is a union commercial carpenter.  The most extensive renovation has been the addition of a 2nd floor spa area, as well as enlarging the luxurious retail area, giving the salonspa over 3000 sq ft.  In 1999,  19th St. Salon & Spa became an Aveda Concept Salon and remains so today.  19th St. Salon & Spa continues to be innovative and will grow and flourish for years to come.

19th St. Salon & Spa also owns the house west of the salonspa, 1900 SW Mission.  We will adding on to our parking lot this summer on the west side of the salon.  We will have a one-way circular drive with parking.  Entrance will be the east drive (which it is currently), circle around the back of the salon, and exit the west drive.  There will be parking on both sides of our salonspa building.  Look for our summer improvements!
